Smart and Holistic
We combine the latest science with age-old wisdom to address the root cause of your problems. We aim to facilitate a healing experience and an environment where you feel seen, heard and cared for. Come and experience a different kind of medical care
Our Core Values Of Care
An Integrative Approach
Rooted in our focus on participatory patient care, it’s our mission to empower you with the knowledge and wisdom to create health yourself, no matter where you are right now.
Guided by our team you will embark on an integrative approach to your wellness, drawing from the best of both Eastern and Western medicine – including smart lifestyle modifications that will significantly improve your health and symptoms.
You’ll receive dedicated attention.
During your exploratory consultation, you will meet with our Doctors to explore your symptoms and lifestyle. They can advise on further testing if needed and then chart the course for your package of care.
No patient is exactly the same, and yet there are many factors that affect your health. We will get to the root cause of your dis-ease – using diagnostic tests that your current doctor may not even know about.
We’ll explore your situation holistically, uncovering mediators in your home, at work, and your mental state to arrive at a “lifestyle prescription” that puts you back on the road to health.
Did you know that it takes on average 17 years for clinical breakthroughs to make their way into the standard of care? At Devon Lifestyle Medicine, we are deeply committed to shortening that lag.
Through sharing best practices and seeking out innovative, out-of-the-box ideas we help our patients achieve their health goals.
Root Cause Resolution
Unlike traditional doctors, we focus on root cause resolution – isolating the key imbalances that are responsible for the symptoms you’re experiencing right now.
Also known as Functional Medicine, we seek to give you solutions, not more bandaids to cover up the symptoms (or treating side effects of drugs with even more drugs).
We will look at how your nutrition, sleep, stress, activity and the environment in which you live affects your health. We can identify specifically how these factors affect your biological systems thus allowing us to come up with a treatment plan designed around you.
Just like your gut bacteria thrive on symbiotic, mutually beneficial relationships, your desired health outcome is much easier to achieve through the power of community.
We hope to build and leverage group structures for patient education, peer-to-peer support, and accountability – with both your care team and your fellow patients rooting for your success.
Why is our approach different?
We have worked, and continue to do so, within the conventional national health systems, both in the UK and Canada, for over 30 years combined.
We feel proud to have cared for thousands of patients within the public system and have great respect and admiration for all the NHS health staff working tirelessly and selflessly, often under very challenging conditions, for the good of their patients.
For accidents and physical injury, critical illness- both physical and mental, maternity care and surgery for example we feel there can be no better care than the NHS.
However, 75-80% of the patients we are now treating have chronic disease caused by our modern lifestyle. Such conditions are sometimes complex and often multifactorial in causation.
Personalised lifestyle medicine can assess your personal health situation, in ways not available on the NHS, and target specific lifestyle interventions to treat your disease.
Through lack of time and specific expertise most doctors feel powerless to treat causation thus patients are left with no choice but to accept medication.
We feel passionately that there is a better way to create health and change lives, and so Devon Lifestyle Medicine was born.
Conditions we treat include:
- Digestive Issues such as IBS, reflux, inflammatory bowel disease, gut dysbiosis.
- Autoimmune Disease including rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune thyroiditis, SLE and coeliac disease
- Cardio-metabolic syndromes; obesity, pre-diabetes, diabetes, cholesterol and blood pressure problems.
- Hormonal issues; polycystic ovary syndrome, sub-fertility, oestrogen and testosterone imbalances and menopause.
- Stress, disturbed sleep, anxiety and mild depression
- Chronic fatigue and pain syndromes
“The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease“
Thomas Edison 1903
“Dr. Chandler, you are a Complete Genius.”
I am so grateful that you are not just a run of the mill, work-weary GP. The difference you have made…
“I have a new zing to life! Thank you Devon Lifestyle Medicine .”
I was referred with chronic gastric problems. I wanted to know what I could do as medication was making my symptoms worse. She explained how and why lifestyle changes could benefit me. I am now symptom free and off many of my medications. I am so grateful for her helping me take responsibility for my own health. I feel so much better.
